Revenger

I read Revenger by Alastair Reynolds late in 2021. I enjoyed the book even though it is aimed at the YA market. This is the first book that I’ve read by Alastair Reynolds so I can’t compare it to his other works.

I liked his worldbuilding for the story. It was fascinating and imaginative.

The plot involves two sisters initially wanting to help their father by hiring themselves out as bone readers on a trader ship. The ship is attacked by a notorious pirate while collecting artifacts, killing the entire crew except one sister who is taken and the other sister who hides.

When the sole survivor realises what has happened, she sets out to save her sister and extract revenge for the murders of her friends. Her exploits take us to the finale, which I won’t spoil.

The book was well written and pace built to the end.

I gave it a 5 star on Goodreads. I know others have give it less.
